Xinghua Temple, previously named Stone Buddha Temple, was built in the years of 713-741 in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Its Grand Buddha Hall, in which the statue of Sakyamuni is worshipped, was carved out from a cliff of the Yunlong Mountain in the Northern Wei period (386-557). The Buddha sits 11.52 feet in height. With a square face and great ears, the Buddha presents a kind and awe-inspiring facial feature. The cliff was made into the back wall of the hall and there are only three layers of bricks laid between the cliff and the back eaves; so there goes the saying among local folks: the Hall of three brick layers shelters the Buddha of ten meters. Enshrined in the cliff are about 200 small Buddha statues carved in different dynasties. In addition, there are many inscriptions of the Tang Dynasty on the cliff surface.
